Placencia is a laid-back seaside village that’s close to everything you want to see. Where Is Placencia?
Placencia is located on the southern tip of the Placencia Peninsula. This 16-mile stretch of seafront looks out at the Belize Barrier Reef. Placencia lies between the Caribbean and the Placencia Lagoon. It is in the Stann Creek District. Placencia is a popular destination for tourists, day trippers and expatriates.
Arriving by Air
Although there is an airstrip in Placencia, you can’t fly directly from overseas locations into Placencia. If you’re flying from overseas, you will land at Philip Goldson Airport in Belize City.
From there, you can take a 30-minute domestic flight from Belize City to Placencia. The local airlines Tropic Air and Maya Island Air have daily flights to Placencia and other key locations. A domestic flight costs around $120 US.
COVID-19 Advisory
Belize has instituted a health protocol for international visitors. In an effort to control the spread of the virus, all visitors to Belize must:
- Download a health app from the Belize government.
- Present a negative COVID-19 test from a medical facility.
- Book your stay through a government-approved hotel that has achieved a Gold Standard in safety protocols.

Taxis and Shuttles
The trip by car is very scenic. Taxis and private shuttles are convenient and comfortable. They are also expensive, ranging from $150 to $300 for the three-hour trip.
Airport Shuttle
Some hotels offer a private shuttle service for their guests. This is the safest, most convenient and most affordable option.
Taking the Bus
The cheapest way to travel to Placencia is by bus. There are many bus lines that travel all over the country, and it’s how the locals travel. It takes about five hours.
